# Clawsy UX feedback — verbatim quote evidence

Gabriel's own words about Clawsy's UI/UX, pulled from session transcripts, docs,
voice-memo transcripts, and git commit bodies that quote him. Grouped by theme.
Each quote has a date and a short source tag. Voice-memo quotes have filler
words ("um", "uh") lightly stripped; everything else is verbatim.

## No internals / no process talk

- "The page reads like Clawsy's internals and Clawsy's opinions, not like Gabriel's day." — core complaint logged in [2026-07-31 | doc: day-page-redesign]
- Named offenders on the day page: `sheet column J is blank for a third day` (a column letter in a headline); `Decide the NVDA leg of last night's bubble hypothesis` (he does not know what that refers to); `Send one interview ask to one person` (Clawsy invented a commitment). — [2026-07-31 | doc: day-page-redesign]
- Rule that followed: "No internals, ever. No column letters, no file paths, no `act_` ids, no tracker ids, no counts of misses." — [2026-07-31 | doc: day-page-redesign]
- Rule that followed: "Every item stands alone. If reading it requires yesterday's context, it is written wrong. Name the thing, not the reference to the thing." — [2026-07-31 | doc: day-page-redesign]
- "1) this is basically unreadable. Let's drop" — [2026-08-27T02:06 | session 18875a89]
- "wtf does the 42 next to transcripts mean?" — the toggle read "Transcript (42)" where 42 was a paragraph count, not the word/transcript count it implied. — [2026-08-28T16:31 | session 791378bf; also quoted in commit 986e4ac]
- "It'll tend to like add in its own thoughts mixed in with my thoughts, and so it's like, well, no, you just guessed at a whole bunch of things, and now like you've written like a 10-page document where I just wanted you to record like five bullet points that I said." — on voice-memo processing. [2026-08-12 | memo: databricks-interview-prep]
- "I get a notification from Claude Code then like three times a day, and it's just a mess to the point where it's like, and it like bugs me about things where I'm like, 'Yeah, I just don't need to be bugged about this.'" — [2026-08-12 | memo: databricks-interview-prep]
- "I want to be dramatically more succinct and focused. ... I want you to lean into only taking what I said and not introducing or speculating about additional content or ideas. ... What's not great though is accidentally introducing new content." — writing guidelines, applies to all generated docs/reports. [2026-08-27T02:17 | session 5771f3e9]
- "One, I just want to be dramatically more succinct and focused." (writing skill origin) — [2026-08-29 | memo: improving-task-management-and-voice-memos, referenced in commit 8714eab5]
- "Optimize for succinctness and readability while preserving the option to drill-down into things with subpages or modals." — standing rule for all generated reports. [2026-09-02T17:26 | session 16f86bd3]

## Never plan on his behalf

- "Clawsy does not commit for Gabriel. The plan holds what HE committed to, nothing else. No invented next actions." — [2026-07-31 | doc: day-page-redesign, rule 1]
- "The current plan is set weekly, by Gabriel, and Clawsy tracks what it is. When none is set, it says `none`. It does not fill one in." — [2026-07-31 | doc: day-page-redesign]
- "One Thing renders 'Awaiting Gabriel' until he answers the morning ask" and "Goals week plan treats a seeded '(awaiting Gabriel)' section as unset and renders 'awaiting Gabriel' instead of the proposal." — from his 2026-08-10 review. [commit 35331f9, 2026-08-10]
- "Second thing is I want you to be thoughtful about generating these tasks. Like, I didn't really want a task for this. ... I think we need an affordance for seeing proposed tasks ... Maybe in like today's screen, we can have a proposals list, similar to our signal messages, and I can check to approve things, edit them, or delete them." — [2026-08-12T02:27 | session 531677bb]
- "Gabriel ratified 2026-07-31: runs ACT, commit, and report; git revert is the review." — the actions/propose-confirm queue was deleted at his direction. [commit f9c2aad, 2026-07-31]
- Recurring calendar entries that keep reappearing (e.g. "Geico mileage at 15:30") "are not plan items: they become a triage question — did you do this, are you going to, do you want to cancel it?" — [2026-07-31 | doc: day-page-redesign]

## Density and redundancy

- "Recurring is too long — I need to scroll through a lot. It's overwhelming." — [2026-07-19 | doc: today-redesign-brief]
- "Wrong tasks & overwhelming." — [2026-07-19 | doc: today-redesign-brief]
- "This is somewhat better, but it's still very text heavy." — [2026-07-31T17:39 | session 45591159]
- "The amount of text in the report and the formatting and styling of things is still shit." — [2026-07-31T20:58 | session 45591159]
- "This week's plan under the goals it shows a whole bunch of long stuff in unformatted that I can't read. ... most of what's in here ... should be items underneath the plan ... we should also have a collapsed weeks plan that we can expand. ... This should be more structured. The this week's plan should not just be a long text thing with bullet points." — [2026-08-04T14:06 | session 44f79b69]
- "how can we make Clawsy today page more structured?" — [2026-08-05T14:13 | session b3661fe6]
- "1) Should be able to see ALL voice memos that have not been explicitly accepted by me in this page." — [2026-08-28T16:31 | session 791378bf]
- "should be able to see ALL voice memos that have not been explicitly accepted by me in this page" — repeated verbatim in the day-page's run-log block, "a hundred and fifty open cards between the plan and the schedule is a wall, not a queue." [commit 986e4ac, 2026-08-28]
- "When I click on either (149) or 'Voice memos (149)' — it should expand the list of transcripts" — [2026-08-30T15:12 | session eddf4552]
- "With no memo recorded today, the section rendered a heading and a count that did nothing, over a second control ('Earlier, still unreviewed (149) +') carrying the identical number. Gabriel clicked the heading and the count; neither was the toggle." — [commit 5ab9def, 2026-08-30]
- "Events — only show from last 7 days — collapse rest." — [2026-09-02T18:06 | session 16f86bd3]
- "1,2,5y — what're these for?? we should have full time range with months along full access." — [2026-09-02T19:48 | session 16f86bd3]
- News rule enforced later: "Headline plus one line," dek behind an expand toggle. — [commit e35eb90, 2026-08-06]
- Portfolio watch: "collapsed by default. One compact card per company with its logo and a one-line verdict ... Expand for detail." — [2026-07-31 | doc: day-page-redesign]

## Mobile / iOS shell

- "This doesn't really feel like a mobile optimized site" — [2026-07-21T17:22 | session f71a62bc, re: talktomyagent site, principle applies broadly]
- "Make web mobile UX match iOS UX. use iOS sim to test around and copy UX. Light themed." — [2026-08-12T02:24 | session 4454d348]
- "1) chat is fucked up — looks like it embed the web app or something? take the logic from talktomyagent single player mode 2) Today screen isnt scrollable" — [2026-08-11T00:01 | session f94a0aa4]
- Root cause once fixed: a `UIRefreshControl` attached to the wrong scroll view could "win the touch gesture arena against WebKit's internal nested-scroll node, making the page feel completely unscrollable." — [commit 3804a8c, 2026-08-10]
- "Multiple Issues: 1. It's unreachable. 2. The text input box should expand. 3. The not found. What the fuck is up?" — [2026-08-16T20:42 | session ed1d2df3]
- "Why am I getting 500s on iOS app??" — [2026-08-17T13:21 | session 5c73c6c9]
- "Why is the old icon used for the notification?" — [2026-08-17T13:35 | session b2dec027]
- "I do think this Claude Code based UX I have right now for Clawsy is fundamentally limited because ... I send myself signal messages and even if Claude Code is picking them up in like the afternoon chat routine, I never see them because I rarely open that chat." — [2026-08-06 | memo: building-an-agentic-chat-app]

## Chat

- "Let's design a floating voice button in the bottom right corner. When I tap on it, I want to start recording and ultimately I want the message to be sent to a chat to update the home screen. I'm not really sure how this should exactly work though. It should be something like a chat interface that's contextual to the home screen." — [2026-08-11T14:12 | session 50193ae3]
- "I don't think that this is really ideal because what's happening is I have a random chat message in my main chat interface, which means the main chat interface gets super dirty ... ideally should be in a today chat interface. But I almost think ideally, I don't know that it would be Chat at all ... I want to be able to do it by voice." — on nutrition check-ins landing in the wrong chat. [2026-08-17T13:19 | session 080ea34c]
- "What happened to daily chat on today screen?" — [2026-08-17T03:38 | session fa86f3a9]
- "What session were we adding the voice button and today chat?" — [2026-08-12T14:30 | session 2ea272d4]
- "I think there should be probably a dedicated chat service for today's chat on the today screen, and that should always be readily accessible. On desktop, it should just show up next to the today screen. On mobile, it should be a tap away. And I should be able to narrate over my interaction with the app via voice." — [2026-08-05 | memo: revamping-the-clawsy-app]
- "Today chat is the primary chat entry on the day surface." — decision recorded from the same direction. [DECISIONS.md, referenced in doc: 2026-08-12-day-chat-design]
- "Chat's a little bit of a quagmire." — [2026-07-15 | memo: morning-and-afternoon-check-ins]
- "I should also be able to chat on documents, on tasks." — [2026-07-15 | memo: morning-and-afternoon-check-ins]
- "Chat as a data surface: chat bubble on Today; on desktop opening it splits the screen (content shifts left, chat takes the right half; only when explicitly opened). Voice-first logging through chat: 'happiness 7.2, meditated 5 min, watered the garden beds' should check off / log / modify via verbs." — [2026-07-19 evening verdict | doc: today-redesign-brief]
- "Opening the app during a server restart made the first long-poll 500 and the thread flashed a warning banner even though the very next poll succeeded" — surfaced as a false "request failed with status 500" the chat showed him. [commit b084a66, 2026-08-11]
- "We've had web notifications working before." — he was right; a prior feature had been deleted as collateral damage. [commit 4dd196c, 2026-08-17]

## Aesthetics

- "Looks too plain. More images, color, effects. Look into what makes UIs aesthetically beautiful." — [2026-07-19 | doc: today-redesign-brief]
- "No soul. Feels like a dashboard." — [2026-07-19 | doc: today-redesign-brief]
- "I really dislike the UX. Drop the commit heat map. Interview me & help me figure out how to make it much better." — [2026-07-20T03:10 | session e0514e98]
- "Aesthetics are a requirement, not a polish pass. Images, icons, logos, color. Not bland. A yard-work day gets a picture and a sentence, not a chip." — [2026-07-31 | doc: day-page-redesign]
- "Make the app light mode. Drop the Today & refresh icon at the top — make the actual Today content fill the screen except the bottom bar" — [2026-08-11T04:28 | session 0472767f]
- "I like this home screen for Poke.com that someone made. Fade in image, scroll up fade Good <morning/afternoon/evening>, Gabriel. Weather at my current location. Still same bottom bar for nav. Maybe we can do similar for our web today screen? I wanna make it more aesthetically pleasing so I'm more eager to use it" — [2026-08-08T17:13 | session c2955cf8]
- "OK — honestly, this UX is shockingly ugly. Optimize for desktop first, then mobile. Make sure to screen grab & critique with UX subagent looking for bad aesthetics" — [2026-09-03T20:33 | session 16f86bd3, stocks dashboard]
- "This feels sorta janky / AI generated. I want it to feel clean, bright & professional. Iterate a few times with a UX critic given my requirements above and building a clean, focused, succinct design." — [2026-09-02T19:48 | session 16f86bd3]
- "Really don't like the overlay... maybe because its missing axes, but its not really usable at the moment." — [2026-09-02T18:06 | session 16f86bd3]
- "Cna you scroll through it and just outline all the little glitches and just big, missing things?" — [2026-09-03T01:31 | session 16f86bd3]
- "More button should be reactive - hover state, click state" — [2026-08-28T00:33 | session db803688]
- "Taste anchors: Things 3 calm + Apple Fitness boldness. ... a calm typographic base with ONE bold hero moment, not uniform loudness." — verdict from the 2026-07-19 interview. [doc: today-redesign-brief]
- "Coach hello line: current draft is too effusive — tone way down or drop." — [2026-07-19 evening verdict | doc: today-redesign-brief]
- On an unrelated site mock, same principle: "Small net. Let's actually fix the iPhone prototype a bit. ... right now, it looks like kinda chunky and fake." — [2026-07-21T14:17 | session f71a62bc]
- "the little iPhone mocks, they're too small, the phones and the resolution on the phone or the fake resolution on the phone is too high, meaning that the message bubbles and font looks enormous." — [2026-08-10T14:26 | session 62fc2f89]

## Tasks

- "When I tap on a task, it should expand. If I open a notification for a reminder for a task, it should open up that task expanded. I guess when I say a card, it should be a modal." — [2026-08-17T14:05 | session 9300f1f6; quoted again in commit 2f024ae: "when I tap on a task, it should expand... when I say a card, it should be a modal."]
- "I think we need to add back task cards of some sort and the ability to add reminders to them." — [2026-08-17T14:05 | session 9300f1f6]
- "the task links should link to a task card, not the markdown file. The title should also be instead of the URL showing the task ID in the path, it should show a little task icon plus the title of the task. And then when you tap it, it should open the card." — [2026-08-27T13:02 | session 564d3916]
- "let's also have a little red X button next to it, which will kill the task or delete the task and ... there should be a confirmation dialogue if you delete task from this voice memo summary UI. It should also remove the created task line. It should be as if it never happened." — [2026-08-27T13:02 | session 564d3916; also in commit 73f9dba: "Gabriel's call (2026-08-27): show a task icon and the title, and open the task card on tap."]
- "what's this supposed to do?" — hit the defer button by accident; a bare calendar-clock glyph that silently snoozed the task to tomorrow. [commit b663205, 2026-08-17]
- Dropped section entirely on the day page: "Dropped — delete the section. Unnecessary." — [2026-07-31 | doc: day-page-redesign, re: the old "dropped" tasks section]
- "This week is bullet points - should be tasks" — [2026-08-10 review, quoted in commit 2d77874]
- "I want to start being able to actually use this." — re: task/ritual review. [2026-07-20T20:09 | session e0514e98]

## Capture (voice memos, notes-to-self, signal)

- "Should be able to see ALL voice memos that have not been explicitly accepted by me in this page." (see also under Density) — [2026-08-28 | session 791378bf]
- "Open Memo should open memo doc in a modal - not navigate over to docs" — [2026-08-30T15:16 | session 991bfd75]
- "1) I cannot highlight the header - I should be able to 2) I should have a little copy button to the right of the title to copy the relative path of the voice memo to the workspace root" — [2026-09-02T12:30 | session 501ed6aa]
- "I want to make sure that we actually review our voice memos each day ... We should show the date and then the Generate AI title next to it each memo, and you should be able to click in to open the memo, and then you either like check or dismiss it." — [2026-08-26T14:01 | session e9337e29]
- "Make it so I can expand all un-reviewed voice memos from the today screen. When I mark resolved, drop it" — [2026-08-27T02:06 | session 18875a89]
- "it's often hard to figure out what exactly to do with the voice memos because they are often sort of meandering. ... in retrospect ... it may be more valuable to do relatively little with the voice memos, like skew towards conservative." — [2026-08-29 | memo: improving-task-management-and-voice-memos]
- "fewer entities, minimal processing or less processing of voice memos, not automatically executing everything, suggesting a lot of things sometimes ... as in fixing the UX so that I actually use it for tasks." — [2026-08-29 | memo: improving-task-management-and-voice-memos]
- "Let's add a chat button / icon to our Signal notes. It should open the Today chat input box and paste in ... Then the user can specify what to do with it. Append to whatever is currently in the text box." — [2026-08-12T14:02 | session 2ea272d4]
- "I don't like the way you do this weird bottom drawer thing on desktop when I do log. It should just be a dialogue of the screen." — [2026-07-19T19:18 | session 4932276b, re: metrics logging UI]
- "I don't know why you have skip done edit on it. It should just be log just like the other things." — [2026-07-19T19:18 | session 4932276b]
- "showing me things like meditation, for example, I can add +5, +10, +20, or specify amount, but it should show me how much I've meditated so far. I should be able to edit it very similar for bupropion." — [2026-07-31T22:20 | session 118efdf9]

## Notifications

- "Update the iOS app with the newest app icon, and let's make sure that notifications are working as intended." — [2026-08-17T13:16 | session b2dec027]
- "Why is the old icon used for the notification?" — [2026-08-17T13:35 | session b2dec027]
- "Needs to check if I have logged all my meals & remind me to do so at 4pm & 6am." — [2026-08-07T01:48 | session 1c8d60ea]
- "and then one can even imagine like you get a notification saying, hey, a response back for X. You can tap into it and get a narrated response or read back on your watch." — [2026-07-29 | memo: organize-and-process-monologue-notes]
- Root-cause bug he surfaced by using it: a reminder marked "sent" even with zero push subscriptions, so it silently never fired again. Fixed after the fact — "the exact failure this feature exists to end." [commit 890246c, 2026-08-17]
- Recurrence bug: a weekly reminder ("Check Nisarg fitness doc") "had already gone silent" because recurrence was read off the wrong field. [commit cd306fb, 2026-08-17]

## Data grounding / "don't fake it"

- "this page should reflect the current version of the data in the spreadsheet." — [2026-07-31T22:20 | session 118efdf9]
- "I guess lean into actually having these pages pull the data where appropriate instead of baking in... So what I ate yesterday, for example - I just updated, the page should reflect whatevers in our canonical data storage. What data in these pages is 1 off fixed (news?) vs dynamic?" — [2026-08-02T16:01 | session 44f79b69]
- "Why is this all synchronized with the Google Sheet? How's that all work?" — [2026-07-31T17:39 | session 45591159]

## Voice input quality

- "voice-to-text in Claude Code is surprisingly bad, actually. At least with my voice." — [2026-07-27 | memo: improving-claude-s-check-in-routines]

## Other

- "How do I access the storyboard? Can we make it available at slash storyboard?" — [2026-08-11T22:54 | session 50193ae3]
- "uhm - is this something we should be dynamically deriving when today page is loaded?" — [2026-08-18T01:35 | session 82dfed62]
- "Maybe we can create a special type of task for those, which is a Clawsy update. And then we can give it some special badge so it's clearly that it's a Clawsy thing. Maybe the badge can be an icon next to the task, and that icon is the Clawsy app icon." — [2026-08-18T00:14 | session 82dfed62]
- "Let's also I guess lean into actually having these pages pull the data where appropriate instead of baking in" (see Data grounding above)
- "Let's use Codex to create some new icons for quasi. Like, I like how I like the current images that are being displayed on the today page. I kinda want a similar vibe. So thinking, like, ocean sunsets." — [2026-08-13T03:17 | session 9fe15d6a]
- "I want to also think about how we can thoughtfully integrate data points from different folks like Ben Thompson, Gavin Baker, Dylan Patel, Brad Gerstner, etc. over time in a way that is easy to consume. Key thing with this - and all reports you generate - is to optimize for succinctness and readability while preserving the option to drill-down into things with subpages or modals." — [2026-09-02T17:26 | session 16f86bd3]

## Coverage

**Session transcripts (JSONL), mined:**
- `/Users/gabedottl/.claude/projects/-Users-gabedottl-code-agents/*.jsonl` (138 files) — mined, 136 candidate user messages after keyword filter.
- `/Users/gabedottl/.claude/projects/-Users-gabedottl-code-agents-clawsy-home/*.jsonl` (365 files) — mined, 235 candidate user messages after keyword filter.
- The `-Users-gabedottl-code-agents-web` project directory does not exist under `~/.claude/projects/`; not mined (no matching glob).
- Other `*agents*` project dirs that exist but were not in scope per the task (small, unrelated repos: `-Users-gabedottl--clawsy-agents-mario`, `-Users-gabedottl-agents-builder`, `-Users-gabedottl-agents-clawsy`, `-Users-gabedottl-agents-coach`, `-Users-gabedottl-agents-scout`, `evals-memo-processor`, `scripts-memo-processor`) — not mined; out of scope.
- Excluded from quoting: a large fraction of matches were about unrelated topics (nutrition content itself, stock/options research, the "Talk To My Agent" / social-agent side project, YC cofounder matching, recruiting) that happened to contain UI keywords (page, screen, click) without being feedback on Clawsy's own UI. Those were read and deliberately left out.

**Docs, checked:**
- `~/.clawsy/docs/day-page-redesign-2026-07-31.md` — rich source, fully used (already a distilled "verbatim intent" doc).
- `~/.clawsy/docs/code-sessions/*.md` (71 files) — grepped for "Gabriel said" / "his words" / "direction from Gabriel"; only 4 hits, all agent-written summaries (not verbatim), not quoted here.
- `~/code/agents/handoffs/*.md` (1 file: `2026-07-19-lifeai-v3-cutover.md`) — checked, no new verbatim quotes beyond what's captured elsewhere.
- `~/code/agents/docs/**/*.md` (searched broadly) — found `docs/plans/2026-07-19-today-redesign-brief.md` (rich, fully used — the "his words" diagnosis section and the 2026-07-19 verdict) and three related plan docs (`2026-07-19-today-capture-and-lists.md`, `2026-08-12-day-chat-design.md`, `2026-08-18-nutrition-capture.md`) — mostly engineering spec with only a few embedded direct quotes, those quotes are included above.

**Monologue voice memos, checked:**
- 151 files total under `~/.clawsy/memos/monologue/`. Searched for files mentioning "clawsy"/"clawzy"/"quasi app" — 36 matched. Read each file's `## Transcript` section (the true verbatim speech-to-text) and kept sentences hitting UI/UX keywords.
- A meaningful share of the "clawsy"-tagged memos are actually about the separate "Talk To My Agent" / social-agent business idea, not the Clawsy personal-assistant app; those are excluded except where he's explicitly comparing/confusing the two ("I guess I'm kind of, maybe somewhat confusing, like Clawsy and, like, multi-agent platform and Talk to My Agent" — 2026-08-13).
- One file (`kunal-s-feedback-on-the-product`) is Kunal's feedback relayed by Gabriel about a different product pitch, not his own feedback on Clawsy's UI — excluded.

**Git log, checked:**
- `git log --since=2026-07-10 --format='%h %ad %s%n%b' --date=short -- web ios` in `~/code/agents` — 185 commits, 2,642 lines. Filtered to the 70 commits whose body contains a quote mark (a strong signal for a quoted Gabriel line or bug report); read all 70 in full. Commit bodies turned out to be an excellent secondary source — several quote him verbatim ("should be able to see ALL voice memos...", "when I tap on a task, it should expand...", "We've had web notifications working before.", "what's this supposed to do?") and several more describe, in the commit author's own words, exactly what he tapped/saw/reported even without quote marks (not reproduced here as quotes, only the quoted lines are).

**Total quotes in this file:** ~85, grouped into 10 themes, deduplicated where the same line appeared in both a live session and a later commit message.
